About the Fund Quality Schools Coalition

Our coalition is composed of organizations which historically have promoted state funding for quality public schools. It includes organizations representing public school parents (PTA), public school teachers and support professionals (VEA), public school superintendents (VASS), members of school boards (VSBA), county boards of supervisors (VACO), and members of city and town councils and county boards of supervisors (VML).

The goal of the coalition is to improve public schools by increasing and sustaining state support through full funding of the Standards of Quality, categorical, incentive and school facilities programs.

We are aware that in 2006-07, Virginia ranked 32nd in the nation in state funding per pupil in average daily attendance (Congressional Quarterly's State Fact Finder 2007, Rankings Across America, page 221).

We are particularly concerned about the potential efforts to divert or diminish funding for at-risk students. Virginia needs to increase, not back away from, our Commonwealth's commitment to the education of Virginia's students.
